2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI Coming Soon
2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI Preview
Lately when folks ask me what’s new, the thing that pops to mind first is the all-new 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI. A model redesign is always pretty exciting if you’re a car guy (or lady), and this one in particular has got me holding my breath. That’s because the new 2015 Golf GTI is going to be faster, roomier, better performing and more fuel efficient than any Golf GTI yet. And that’s saying something!
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a fan of the Golf GTI from the beginning, and the 2014 model is a spectacular car. So, when I read that the engineers at Volkswagen were redesigning the ultimate “hot hatch” I admit I was a little concerned. It turns out I had no reason to be. The new 2015 Mk7 version of the Volkswagen Golf GTI is everything that I could have hoped for in a redesign – and then some.
Anyone who’s driven a Golf GTI knows the experience is about all-around performance and handling. The acceleration was there for sure, but all-out power wasn’t a part of the package. That’s all about to change with the new 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI. Although the engine is still the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, it’s been tuned to deliver more horsepower and a lot more torque than before.
The new specs for the 2015 Golf GTI power plant include a bump up to 210 horsepower and a whopping 258 lb-ft of torque, compared with last year’s 207 lb-ft. Now that’s power you can feel. And still, the fuel economy is expected to be around 30 MPG combined. But of course the improvements don’t stop there.
Although the 2015 Golf GTI Mk7 will look a lot like the Mk6, the new version is actually a completely different platform. First off there’s a new front-wheel drive design that widens the stance of the 2015 Golf GTI. Then there’s the wheelbase that has been extended by two inches. Of course the suspension has been upgraded along with the brake calipers and new 18-inch alloy wheels.
The result is a Golf GTI that both holds the road better, and powers you through the turns quicker. I can’t wait to get it out on our North Georgia back roads from Loganville through Winder and Jefferson. That’s where the new design is really going to come through.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI has always been a driver’s car – it’s the “hot hatch” that started it all. My reason for being nervous was simply because I thought there wasn’t a lot of room for improvement. Was I wrong! The 2015 Golf GTI is quite simply an amazing car that lives up to the reputation of its predecessors, while exceeding expectations.
